There's too much blind faith in the world.
We believe too much in things we hear, hardly any of us bother to verify its authenticity.
We dun dare question because we accept things as they are. We are fearful of punishment, chiding or being termed a rebel. We tell ourselves to believe in something because our mothers, teachers, friends say so and because we can "feel" that "something".
We believe what the "higher authoritative figures" tells, teaches and wants us to believe. We ignore contradictions, obvious nonsense, logic in pursue of this "greater good".

This story has been told to many of my friends...

Once on Ripley's Believe it or not, they were featuring a particular tribe in South America. The people of this tribe had an unusual custom. They'd cut off one finger everytime someone in their family enters mortality. They believe that they must suffer pain so that their deceased can go to a better place.
Now imagine you, an explorer, seeing all these. You know it is crazy, stupid even. You can't see how cutting off fingers could possibly have any links with going to heaven or hell. So you, being the good samaritan, set out and try to change the tribes' thinking, explaining how illogical their beliefs are.

Stop now and think. Do you think you will be successful? I hardly think so. Its hard to change mindsets. These tribal people believe in whatever they do because they have been brought up that way. This is their world, nothing else matters, this is the only world they know of.

Now think of ourselves as belonging to different tribes around the world. We have our customs, beliefs and traditions. We believe too much in things we hear, or are taught. We refuse to accept logic, preferring to accept the mysterious, magical and comforting. We believe that what we believe is correct. We believe we are smart enough. This is the world we live in, this is our "tribe".Nothing, no matter how logical or profound, can make us change our minds.

I hope you get my drift. There are so many things in our lives that are in need of being questioned, but they are not. When we just accept things as they are, it reinforces that idea/belief in our minds. Over time, we end up falling deeper into this trap, we cannot not believe in it anymore, it becomes part of us.
This post is not meant to ask any of you to stop believing in your gods or the health benefits of bird's nest. This is just my personal opinion on my life and the countless beliefs of people around me. Hope you'd have enjoyed reading this.
