Had another debate on religion with my friends last night. As usual, it went no where. I've come to learn that unless we are really open to change, debate is useless. I guess why we debate so much is because we all want to prove something. We want to know that we are smart, or well-read in sciences, our respective religions, etc. That is why petty debates like this go nowhere. We all just want to show off. We may deny that, but that is really what its all about. Skeptics and believers will never, or, can never agree on a single resolution. This is because believers listen to their hearts and accept things that even defy logic or coherence. Skeptics on the other hand, require proof to justify how things work or happen. How can these 2 co-exist? If a person who requires scientific proof in his work meets a person who believes in faith, even in the most ludicrous of situations, they are bound to argue. In the end, it is expected that no resolution would be reached. There's too much ego involved, too much confidence in oneself. I may be a skeptic, but the truth is none of us will never know which of us is truly correct until our end. Whatever that we have learnt, believed, or heard, are from our environment. Even right now, whether you agree with me or not, depends on the type of upbringing you have. Most of us either agree or not agree, that is what we have been taught. To make a decision, but why? If you do not, is it wrong? Is it hard to even imagine how one can have no stand in any matter? "One surely must have a stand!" Really? I know for sure one thing. Humans will never know anything, we think we know but we don't. This is precisely why humans, who strive to find reason in life ,find the idea of a nihilistic existence hard to swallow or even comprehend. "How can it be?!" "There must be a reason!" One might shout. How would we ever know......? Savant at 1/13/2004 12:32:00 pm ;
