I've just read an article in the Straits Times concerning the deepavali celebrations. Apparently, devout devotees are dipping their hands into oil as a sign of faith. Amazing huh. Not really. Until you realised that this feat has been shown on tv before. All you need for this oily feat is a big wok, some oil, and enough lemon juice(or orange) juice. Let the oil boil then pour the lemon juice over it. Since they are both different substances with different boiling points, the oil would boil at a lower temperature than lemon juice. And since lemon juice is transparent, the boiling oil beneath it would make it seem as though as its one big wok of boiling oil. Of course, according to the law of thermodynamics(in which i have no knowledge of), heat would inevitably cause the lemon juice to boil, so your timing has to be right. Let the lemon juice sit for a while and dip your hand into it a few times. Combine it with lavish ceremonies and presto! Faith. Great Faith. I'm not trying to be critical against any religion, i just want to tell everyone that is reading this that things may not be what they seem. Alot of things that we learn in this world come from books, from our parents, hearsay, or just blind faith. Education is important. Open mindedness is even more important. Alot of my friends cannot listen to what i say because they have been too consumed by their religion. They got themselves into a guilt trap. If you are one of those reading this now, you would most probably want to learn more, but in the end become afraid to ask. That's because it goes against what you have been taught: Don't go against your faith, or believe whatever even though it seems illogical. There's always a greater meaning to whatever... Yah right, what a load of crud. That's this. I'm the devil, i'm trying to make you lose your faith. Wow, ya right. Savant at 10/30/2004 11:03:00 am ;
