To be baptized by the spirit of life.

To breathe new life.

To give thanks.

To see much more clearly.

To be wasted

To be more acute

Be more aware

To forget...

It ends.. here. Right now.

I'd been looking forward to Sunday for the whole of this week. Things didn't work out the way I'd wanted. Its confusing. Since this blog is public, I shall not go into details. Its nobody else's business anyway. One good thing is, I'll be spending 3 days outfield next week. Digging shellscrapes and trenches. I can literally dig my own hole and wallow in self pity over today's events.
Yes... That would suffice.

Okay... Now to blog like any other normal person. Mahler's 7th was good. Lawrence Gargen mispitched in the last movement though. Haha. But otherwise he was good. Strong, heralding trumpet sound. The strings were oh so neat. Especially the Scherzo, the 3rd movement. Mr Han on the horn was superb too. It sounded exactly like the Chicago recording I've been listening to the whole week. Had a little chat with this lady from Belgium too who sat beside me. She saw me listening to my iPod and she started asking questions. Seems like I wasn't the only one who has been preparing for the concert, she spent the whole week listening to Mahler's 7th too. She even told me she loves the SSO. Haha, that's nice to hear.

Okay sian. Stop. My mind is racing with images of today. Argh. Assumptions.

Too much assumptions.

Saturday, November 27, 2004

My friend and I decided to watch Mahler's 7th Symphony on the 27th, performed by the SSO.

Earlier this week, my commanders decided that there would be some commander's training on the 27th, so like any "loyal" and "good" soldier, I had to tell my friend I could not attend the concert.

Come Thursday, my Officers suddenly said that there won't be any training on the 27th. WTF? Piss-poor planning. Last minute decisions again. Typical.

So I messaged my mum, telling her to book for me 1 ticket for Saturday's performance(they had one on Friday too), doesn't matter if I won't be sitting with my friends, at least we'll be in the same hall.

Then my mum suddenly called on Friday, asking what time I'll book out, in case I'll be late for my concert. I was shocked. Hello, Saturday's performance, not Friday's!

Big mistake. My mum decided to go watch it anyway, even though she wasn't really keen on it.

Alright so last night , as my mum was watching the concert, I was at NIE symphonic band having the time of my life playing Star Wars. Halfway through playing Duel of the Fates, my friend messaged me that Lawrence Gargen was the best trumpeter he had heard live.

W T F ! ! !

He went to the Friday show. Here I was in NIESB, and he's there at the Esplanade. I was like WAH LAU and &#%$*@!!!!

Looks like its gonna be a lonely Saturday concert. *weeps*

Hmmmm, but its ok. Because on Sunday. Something nice is happening. Can't wait. Its been a long time coming, but it was worth the wait.

Special Day. My cousin got married today. More accurately, the marriage ceremony was held today.

It was my first time witnessing a wedding ceremony of sorts. It was quite long, but the experience was rewarding. Dinner at night was good too. All my cousins were there, all of them real fun people.

Photos can be seen by clicking here.

Real tired. That's all for this week. Two weeks of sian-ness coming up. Shan't complaint. Everyone is sick of hearing me whine I think.

Well... I know...

Thursday, November 18, 2004

I took leave for Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday was spent at the Esplanade. I went there with the sole purpose of relaxing. I didn't know how I was going to RELAX per se, but I tried nevertheless.
I got myself Gustav Mahler's Symphony no. 5 and 7, in full score. Got myself a seat facing the ocean (very little people, good). Put on my head phones and proceeded to go through both symphonies. Not an easy feat I tell you. Its very difficult to read an orchestra score. Not to mention Mahler's works.

Its kind of lame to many people, but I found it very exciting to be able to see the notes and hear the work being played. Until you see the score, you will not realise all the minute parts in the background. In some bars, of 4/4 time and of allegro time, the violins and violas have to play a set of triplets, a cluster of sixths, then fifths, then 4 semiquavers.
Kudos.

After Mahler, I wanted to proceed on to Rachmaninov's Preludes. Somehow I couldn't find them. I don't know why. Perhaps I've never had a connection with the Dewey Decimal system.

One good thing then was that, as I was using the computer to browse through its catalogue of scores, I heard wonderful music being made inside the recital room. There was a girl inside, playing the piano, with a guy by her side. I couldn't see her face at first. I was trying to picture a face on that lady, as i pretended to use the computer and listen to her flawless performance. It was some contemporary piece, at least diploma in terms of skill level.

After about 10 minutes, she came out. One word to describe her.

Babe.

A beauty with virtuosity definitely. Whether she had musicality was another thing. One thing for sure, I was damn well impress by her overall package (not PACKAGE if you know what I mean). *bows*

After she had left, it was back to the scores for me. I found George Gershwin's An American in Paris. It was even more fun than listening to Mahler. Haha. SSO should play it in the future. Would like to see if our soloists can match up to CSO's. HEH.

Oh yeah, I went to the car show at Suntec (thanks for telling me, you know who you are). It was damn boring and I went there without bringing my camera. I didn't see Mercedes' modern cars, only their antique ones. There were some horrible racequeens at Subaru and Lexus. Tight budget huh. At least there weren't crowds to squeeze in between on a weekday, which was good.

I think i should head down to HMV today to get myself a CD. Zzz

I woke up today to the most obiang of handphone ringtones belonging to my bunkmate. That ringtone alone itself is enough to send shivers down anybody's spine.

Why? Why don't they realise this kind of things?

I really really am hating army now. Its getting worse. This bloody feeling, even though its only 485 more days. Yes other people went through it, that means i could and should to. I have no choice. But no... I hate it.
I hate seeing stupid army posters everyday telling us to serve and be loyal. Its so Naziish, so fake, so pretentious.

I need to get out.

Seems like most of my friends are driving already, and I've actually been driven around by most of them.

Its embarrassing, I haven't even taken my Basic Theory yet. I should have listened when people told me to take it after my As.

Alright that's that, moving along...

You guys who love fish and chips, forget Fish & Co., there's a better place to eat good white meat. Head down to Takashimaya Shopping Centre Basement 1. Look for a seafood eatery just in front of the escalator which is in front of cold storage's checkout counters. Get a seat and order their Beer Battered Fish & Chips.
Wait awhile while the person prepares it, it takes quite awhile but its worth it. Fresh and creamy. Nice.

Manchester United won last night's match against Newcastle. It came as a surprise actually, I was actually expecting Manchester United to LOSE. Mind you I'm a fan of theirs. Hopefully this won't be a one time thing. Its good to have ol' keano back, however I'm still waiting to see Solksjear in action. Its been a long time since he played.

Spoke to Chiyu the other day. He told me some of my friends actually made it to OCS and Airforce. I was like what the fuck! How the hell does the SAF choose its personnel? Wrong people at the wrong places. The people who really want to go don't get to go. Its really a retarded system. Screw it.

I hate to touch on this topic, that's because I know people will say that I'm jealous.

But I am. Now beat it.

Anyway, Christmas is coming. Same old thing every year. Only thing different now is that there seems to be more street performers in orchard. Its nice but the people who gather block up the whole bloody walkway. Oh yeah, I think the worse performer is the guy who hangs out at Lido and Paragon, dressed in silver or gold. So you actually think standing like a statue is cool and artistic? Someone should just walk up to him and pull down his loincloth-for-underwear undies and laugh. Everyone should have a laugh seeing him cover his genitals with those irritating fake doves of his. Get a life mister.

Why are people still wearing baggy jeans? Do they think its cool? Do they like cleaning the pavement so much? Its such an eyesore. I sometimes wonder what those ang mos walking alongside them think. Baggy jeans. Skinny guys wearing shirt and shiny black shoes with shiny belt buckles. Irritatingly long and straight hair.

And to top it all up.... Wearing Sunglasses indoors or at night.

WTF?
Nothing can beat that... well probably the people who enjoy watching Singapore Idol.. urghh.

There are so many people forwarding senseless chainmail around in friendster and email. It never ceases to amaze me how these many people can be so stupid. How people simply believe everything they read. How people never question but instead readily pass along false information.

Its maddening to see how people can be so dumb still.

But, hey! On the other hand at least you'll know where you stand amongst these niincompoots.

I took a good look at myself today... and i realised i've got alot of facial "wounds". Going outfield in the army has exposed myself to the elements and nature, particularly mosquitoes. I have scars on my hands and face due to uncontrollable scratching.

My face and hands have never been worse. I hate it.
Camo cream plus 3 days of "no-bath" outfield can do wonders for your skin. Argh maybe i'm vain, but i guess it pretty serious because my parents are starting to take notice of my scratch wounds.

How? No choice. I'll just sit in the corner and suck thumb. LOL

499 days more before i ORD. I've got a friend who's finally hitting double digits, its gonna be a long time before i hit double digits though.
